The Brazilian, who visited Moat Community College with fellow City star Ricardo Pereira, enjoyed various English language activities with a number of international students, which encouraged him to learn key words and phrases.
Led by Community Engagement Coach Zahra Zahid, a native Portuguese speaker, the session also gave Tetê and Ricardo the chance to discuss their upbringing and culture, and how they adapted to life in England, along with some of the challenges they faced with moving to a new country.
Tetê
Tetê learnt some English phrases during the event.
The session, which was part of the Premier League Kicks and Inspires programmes, celebrated Football Welcomes month, an opportunity to highlight the role football can play in creating more welcoming communities.
Tetê commented: “I really enjoyed the workshop because it helped me to gain more confidence with my English skills, and it was nice for me to engage and learn with other students too.
“Moving to a new country is never easy and there are many challenges, but football has an important role to play and always brings so many people together.”
Ricardo Pereira
Portuguese defender Ricardo Pereira also attended the college visit.
Leicester City in the Community, the Club’s charitable arm, are one of only a handful of organisations who deliver the Football Welcomes Community Project, with Moat Community College being one of several city and county sites.
“Football Welcomes is all about bringing people from different countries together and helping them to adapt to life in a new city and making them feel welcome,” Zahra explained.
“Tetê could really relate to the experiences some of the students have been through having only moved to Leicester in January, so they understood his feelings and some of the things he’s been through so far during his time in England.”
Tetê & Ricardo Visit Moat Community College For Languages Session
Two Foxes stars were part of a Leicester City in the Community event held to mark Football Welcomes month with pupils at Moat Community College.
Working alongside City of Sanctuary and After 18, Leicester City in the Community deliver weekly football sessions for new arrivals and have just started a new football programme in Loughborough.
Haleemah, a student at Moat Community College, added: “I think Tetê did an amazing job. There were some words he already knew, and others he picked up, so I’m really proud of him.
“It’s difficult when you move to new environments because you’re leaving your own country and your language behind to move somewhere else, so you need to adapt and learn things quickly, so I understand what Tetê is going through.”
