Looking At The Foxes' Fixture Against Chelsea Women

LCFC Women travel to Kingsmeadow on Wednesday evening when they take on Chelsea in the Barclays Women's Super League (7pm kick-off).
More on this story...

Leicester head back to the London for the second time in a week, to face the current WSL champions, after falling to a 1-0 reverse at the hands of Arsenal at Meadow Park on Friday evening.

Before Wednesday's clash, here is a look at both camps...

The Foxes remain in good form heading into this fixture, with two wins in their last three WSL outings. Beating Reading 2-1 at the start of April lifted them off the foot of the WSL table for the first time of the season, before rounding off the month with a convincing 4-0 win over Liverpool at King Power Stadium.

Most recently, City put in a valiant effort last Friday as they were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in north London. It took a second half strike from Frida Maanum to dispatch Leicester, after a first-half penalty from Katie McCabe was well saved by Janina Leitzig.

Leicester arrive in the capital with the possible return of Shannon O'Brien to the squad for the first team in four months, along with nominations for May's Player of the Month, Goal of the Month and Manager of the Month for the WSL in Courtney Nevin, Sam Tierney and Willie Kirk respectively.

Guro Reiten opened the scoring for Chelsea in their 7-0 win over Everton.

Wednesday's hosts are in lightning form, with only one WSL defeat since the turn of the year, and fresh from a 7-0 victory over Everton last weekend. Pernille Harder was the stand-out performer off the bench with two goals and an assist.

Winning will come as a must for the Blues, who are in the midst of a title race. Currently second in the standings, and four points behind league leaders Manchester United with two games in hand, many deem Emma Hayes' side the favourites to retain the trophy.

Looking at the team in more detail, Australian international Sam Kerr is top scorer with double figures, while Guro Reiten may also be one to watch, with 16 goal involvements this season.

Emma Hayes has been the head coach of Chelsea for over a decade, taking the reins in August of 2012. The 46-year-old has an impressive CV from her time in London, having won the WSL five times, and the Vitality Women's FA Cup four times, winning both during last season's campaign.

The English manager has won the WSL Manager of the Season on five occasions, and has taken home the award the last three years running. She was also inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame in 2021, and was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2022.

The Foxes were beaten by Chelsea in the reverse fixture at King Power Stadium in December.

The Foxes don't have a good record against Chelsea, losing their last four meetings. Earlier on in the season, City were beaten 8-0 by the rampant Londoners, with England international Fran Kirby scoring twice on Filbert Way.
