Petermann: I’m Here To Score Goals
Petermann, who spent the last four years playing in the Division 1 Feminine with French club Montpellier, moves to England to feature in the WSL for the first time in Willie Kirk’s squad.
The centre-forward has scored over 50 goals in her career so far, which spans more than 150 games across Europe and on the international stage with Germany. She has since expressed her delight to sign in her first interview with the Club, in an exciting move during this transfer window.
“It feels really great to get the deal done,” Petermann told us. “I’m excited to be here, and to sign for this Club. I’m really impressed by the facilities; the King Power Stadium is amazing and it’s a club with history which means a lot to me.
Lena Petermann will wear the number nine for LCFC Women.
“I spent four years with Montpellier, and it was a great time, but I felt like I needed a new challenge. It’s always been my dream to play in this league, because it’s so interesting and has so much quality. I now have this opportunity, and I’m so happy I can finally play here in England.
“The quality and level of football here is so high, and the support for women’s football in this country is massive – there’s a big boom around it. It’ll be a pleasure to play in this league, and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans who care so much about it.
“I like to score goals. That’s my job, and I want to bring as much as I can and give everything to the team and help in any way possible. I’ll work hard for everyone, but I’m here to score goals.”
Despite having not played in England’s top division before, the 29-year-old brings an abundance of experience with her to the East Midlands and believes that she has the right qualities to push the Foxes to new heights.
It's A Dream To Play In The WSL, Says Petermann
Lena Petermann's first interview after joining LCFC Women on a permanent basis ahead of the 2023/24 Barclays Women's Super League season.
“I’ve played in different countries, such as Germany, France, and the USA, so I’ve experienced a lot and I think I can bring this experience to Leicester,” the striker added. “I hope I can help the younger players with their development.
“I’ve known about this club for quite a while, as I know Sophie Howard. I’ve been following her and seeing how she’s been doing, and I also follow the league. I know the last two years haven’t been so good, but I think that with the big changes that are happening, we can look at pushing on.
“My aims with the Club next season are to push them higher up the division. I don’t want us to be near the bottom, but instead looking upwards. I want to score as many goals as possible, and that’s the biggest part for me, and the reason why I’m here – to score goals.”
