Joined by 60 Key Stage 2 children, Kendall took part in a series of sessions around developing emotional resilience, environmental sustainability and physical education.

Activities included brain teasers, humans vs. nature and tennis games  – giving her a wide-range feel of the vast range of activities that are delivered across Leicester and Leicestershire.

Speaking at the New Parks school, Kendall said: “It has been a phenomenal day. The sheer reach that Leicester City in the Community has got here is astonishing; you are making such a difference throughout Leicester.

“The children have absolutely loved it, they have learned all sorts of new skills about how to stay resilient, the environment and practicing new skills too, which is fantastic for their life chances.

“I would say to any schools out there that aren’t part of this programme to join up, I cannot recommend it enough.”

PL Primary Stars uses the appeal of professional football to support children to be active and develop essential life skills.

Launched in 2017, it is available to every primary school in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, inspiring girls and boys aged 5-11 in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field.

Leicester City in the Community Primary Stars Coordinator, Glenn Short, also commented on the day.

“It was fantastic to host Liz Kendall MP yesterday," he stated. “She got a really good experience of a wide range of activities that we deliver by getting involved with them.

“It is so important for MPs to come and visit our Premier League Primary Stars programme because it enhances the reach and raises awareness to schools who may not have heard of the programme before.

The Leicester West MP was all praise for the primary school-based initiative.

“As a club community organisation, we aim to meet the needs of the children and the school, that is why we are very adaptable as an organisation and as a programme.

“We feel there is a great importance in everything that we do to help any child we work with.”
