Everything Came Off, Says Vardy
- Leicester City were 4-1 winners at Southampton on Friday night
- Jamie Vardy was among the goalscorers at St. Mary's Stadium
- Kasey McAteer, Wilfred Ndidi and Stephy Mavididi also found the net
- Vardy says City are benefiting from their work with Enzo Maresca in training
Vardy opened his account for 2023/24 with a strike inside the opening 21 seconds for the Foxes at St. Mary's Stadium. Later goals from Kasey McAteer, Wilfred Ndidi and Stephy Mavididi did the trick for City, who returned to the Sky Bet Championship summit after their fifth win in six league matches under Enzo Maresca's management.
The Foxes were ruthless in their pressing game, often winning the ball high up and instantly attacking Russell Martin's hosts.
Four-midable Foxes Win In Southampton
Jamie Vardy, Kasey McAteer, Wilfred Ndidi and Stephy Mavididi got the goals in a 4-1 win at Southampton.
"We came with a game plan," Vardy said, after scoring his 171st competitive goal for the Club. "You’ve seen in all the previous games how the Manager wants to play. It’s a process. Everyone’s learning every single day.
"Especially in the first half tonight, everything we were doing was coming off."
Vardy says Leicester's work ethic in training is paying dividends as Maresca fine tunes his tactical idea with a new squad.
Vardy: We Came With A Game Plan
Jamie Vardy speaks following Leicester City's 4-1 victory over Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium.
"It didn’t surprise me at all," the 36-year-old added, discussing the amount of chances created by the away side. "We know how the Manager wants us to play. We’re doing it in training every single day. The amount of chances we create when we’re playing against each other – because of the way we’re playing – there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s how good it is.
"It’s a process. We’re learning every day and hopefully it’ll just keep getting better. We’ve got to keep improving. There’s bits we’ll take from tonight that we won’t be happy with. We’ve got to take that into Wednesday night now.
"We’ve got that many attacking players on the pitch, there’s going to be chances coming from every single angle."
