Palmer: I'm Bringing Goals To My Game

Palmer has enjoyed an impressive start to Leicester life since joining from last season’s Barclays Women’s Championship winners Bristol City. After scoring on the opening day against her former employers, the Fox added a second to her account with a free-kick against the Reds.
City have won their first two games in the Barclays Women’s Super League and on Wednesday night started their League Cup campaign in similar fashion, with Hannah Cain's strike confirming victory and three points in Group B.
After a third consecutive win of 2023/24, Palmer shared her thoughts on a hard-fought triumph at Pirelli Stadium and what it can mean for confidence back in the league.
“I’ve been practicing free kicks yesterday in training and it was in the right place for me to hit it so I thought I’d give it a go and luckily it went in,” Palmer explained. “I scored a similar one in pre-season so the aim was to get it on target and thankfully I scored.
“On a personal level, I want my performance to be on par with the goal, I want the performance to be at a high level, but I want to be able to help the girls however I can, and if can bring goals to my game then that’s great but the three points are even more important.
“Willie [Kirk] has drilled it into us that it’s not just a League Cup game, we need to treat it as a league game, and three wins from three is amazing and we need to keep pushing because that’s not the ceiling for us. We’ve got levels we want to break through.
“We deserved the win at the end of the game, and it was a good performance. But we know where we want to get to and it’s not ever a given, but we look forward to the game against Manchester United on Sunday.”
Kirk’s side now prepare for a trip to Leigh Sports Village, where they’ll face the Red Devils in Sunday’s early kick-off (12pm BST). Marc Skinner's outfit drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in midweek.
“As a group of girls, we want to get as far as we can in every cup competition,” City's No.6 continued. “So we know the value of winning, and going on a winning streak. We’re three from three now and we want to keep that going at the weekend.
“We know that they (Manchester United) are a good team, but equally we’ve proven that we’re a very good team, and the opposition will be afraid of us. We’re looking forward to the match on Sunday and hopefully get three points there as well.”
