Having been 2-0 up heading into the final 10 minutes of the Barclays Women’s Super League clash at Broadfield Stadium, Petermann was disappointed to have let the lead slip, outlining how City must learn to cut out defensive errors to ensure that once they gain a lead, they are able to hold out until the final whistle.

We Need To Be More Mature, Says Petermann

An honest reflection of LCFC Women's 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion from Lena Petermann.

“I think all in all, we are really frustrated,” the German voiced. “We gave away a potential win, from being 2-0 up, and we should keep that score by defending the goal as much as we can.

“We need to make sure we don’t make silly defensive errors and come away with more than a point because we had three for most of the game.”

City's No.9 scored her third goal of the season when she won possession back from the hosts and sent an unstoppable left-footed effort past Sophie Baggaley. While happy to score, there was mainly frustration and a willingness to learn valuable lessons to ensure they are better prepared ahead of a busy week, with games against both Manchester United and West Ham United.

We need to be smarter and more mature when in these winning positions.

“I was close to the goal, and once I won the ball back, I thought that I’d just hit it,” Petermann continued. “Luckily, I hit it well and it went in; it’s always nice to score.

“Our defensive work must be better. We need to be on the players, especially when it gets to our box, we need to defend it better.

“We must learn from the last few games, where once we have the lead, we need to defend it. We need to be smarter and more mature when in these winning positions.”
