The Foxes were ahead just before the interval thanks to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s penalty, however Abdul Fatawu was sent off moments later, changing City’s approach in the second half.

They were able to repel Coventry for much of the second 45, also creating opportunities to double their lead, however the Sky Blues scored three goals in the closing stages as City were beaten for just the fourth time in the Sky Bet Championship this term.

“It’s been a different game, I’ve very proud of the players,” said Maresca. “[In the] first half, we were controlling the game, 1-0 up, and then the red card, it completely changed the game.

Maresca Reflects On Coventry Reverse

Manager Enzo Maresca speaks after Leicester City were beaten 3-1 at Coventry City on Saturday.

“Second half, in any case, we were playing a different game. We don’t like to drop, but with less players, sometimes you have to. But I’m completely proud, because it’s not easy to play with 10 players.

“Abdul is very young. He needs to learn many things. One of the things is he probably needs to be more calm. But it’s part of his process.”

Leicester had two appeals for a penalty turned down before Dewsbury-Hall was felled in the box and converted from 12 yards. It was a cagey first half in the build-up to the opener, before the game exploded into life.

Now, we have a game at home and we need to go again.

“Very good, we created some chances,” he said of the first period. “We had a goal that we scored, it was a clear penalty before the penalty that we scored, so we were very happy.

“Then, second half, we needed to change the way we play. It was just to continue to defend in the way we were defending in the first half. It worked quite well because we didn’t concede until they scored their goal.

“In this kind of game, the important thing is don’t concede. In the moment that we concede, 1-1, it becomes more difficult. But it is what it is.

“Now, we have a game at home and we need to go again.”
