Iheanacho's Nigeria Beaten In AFCON Final
- Nigeria beaten 2-1 in CAF Africa Cup of Nations Final by Ivory Coast
- Kelechi Iheanacho was a second-half substitute at Olympique Alassane Ouattara
- Sebastian Haller scored the winning goal on Sunday evening
Two second-half goals from the host nation overturned Nigeria's lead in the final of the competition on Sunday evening, with former West Ham United striker Sebastian Haller netting the late winner.
Iheanacho began on the bench for the Super Eagles and looked on as his side took the lead at Olympique Alassane Ouattara, when captain William Troost-Ekong broke the deadlock with a header.
Nigeria held the lead until the hour mark. However, the constant pressure eventually paid off for Ivory Coast when Franck Kessié brought the scores back level with a header of his own.
This cued Iheanacho's introduction into the game, as he joined Victor Oshimen up front, but with the momentum on their side, and in front of their own crowd, Ivory Coast took the lead with eight minutes left on the clock through a smart flicked effort from Haller.
As timed ticked by, Nigeria threw everything they had at the hosts, but were unable to do anything to further alter the scoreline. The Leicester City striker will now return to Sky Bet Championship football with the Foxes squad.
