‘We Cannot Have Complacency’
- Leicester City defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in the Sky Bet Championship
- Abdul Fatawu and Jamie Vardy were the goalscorers at King Power Stadium
- Enzo Maresca was pleased to get the job done and secure maximum points
- There is now a 14-point gap to third place in the current second tier standings
The Foxes marched on back at King Power Stadium, securing maximum points for the fourth successive Sky Bet Championship fixture to hold a 14-point advantage in the race for automatic promotion.
Two first-half goals secured another pleasing success for City’s Manager in front of the Blue Army, with Abdul Fatawu and Jamie Vardy finding the net, the latter handed a start against his boyhood club.
“I’m very happy,” the 44-year-old reflected. “Like always, in this moment it’s important to win games. We played well; the first half was not perfect, but it was very good. We cannot have complacency because there are many games still to play. We’re just focused game by game.”
Breaking the deadlock just four minutes in, there was no repeat of the reverse fixture when Leicester failed to close the game out and paid for it late on. Instead, City were able to double the advantage.
“[Once you score] then you have 90 minutes to play,” he explained. “It happened already against Swansea in the last game we played at home, we scored in the last minute. Tonight we then struggled in the first 10 or 15 minutes because they changed something.
'Not Perfect, But Very Good'
Enzo Maresca provides his post-match reaction to Leicester City's success at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
“But we adjusted and it was quite good. But I never feel confident, to be honest. We need to win the game by playing as well as we can and just need to focus on the things we need to do and that is all.”
With four striking options soon to be at his disposal, the Italian was pleased to be able to hand minutes to both Vardy and Tom Cannon, with Kelechi Iheanacho’s return from the Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon and the in-form Patson Daka also available.
Maresca added: “We try to use all of them. Tom Cannon was not playing in the last game but tonight we gave him 15 or 20 minutes.”
