Iversen Clean Sheet; Wins For Soumaré & Kristiansen

Daniel Iversen kept a clean sheet as Stoke City took a step towards securing their Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.

- Daniel Iversen was between the sticks as Stoke City beat Plymouth Argyle
- Victor Kristiansen and Boubakary Soumaré helped their teams to victory on Monday
- Luke Thomas started in Middlesbrough's defeat to Leeds United in the Championship
- Paul Appiah played for Maidstone United who won the Kent Senior Cup Final

The Potters triumphed 3-0 over Plymouth Argyle at bet365 Stadium to move onto 50 points and into 17th position, four points above the drop zone. The Danish ‘keeper’s fifth league shutout in 16 appearances should see Steven Schumacher’s side remain in the second tier for another term.

They travel to face Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off) in the penultimate match of 2023/24.

Another big result for Kristiansen and Bologna this week.

Luke Thomas played the opening 68 minutes at Riverside Stadium on Monday evening but could not prevent Middlesbrough from falling to a 4-3 defeat at home to promotion chasing Leeds United. The ninth-placed Teessiders are on 63 points as things stand, with a trip to Cardiff City awaits on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

In Serie A, Victor Kristiansen came off the bench in the 80th minute to help Bologna see out a 3-1 victory over Roma at Stadio Olimpico this Monday night. The Danish full-back has played a prominent role in seeing I Rossoblù sit fourth in the table, now seven points ahead of the Rome club in fifth. They host Udinese on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

There was another start in midfield for Boubakary Soumaré during Sevilla's 2-1 success at home to Mallorca, an 11th consecutive 90 minutes in the league for the Frenchman. The La Liga club have moved up to 12th ahead of travelling to Real Betis on Sunday (8pm kick-off).

Paul Appiah helped Maidstone United lift the Kent Senior Cup Final last Wednesday, starting the 4-0 victory over Ebbsfleet United, before the Stones defeated Hampton & Richmond Borough 5-1 in their final home of the regular Vanarama National League South season at Gallagher Stadium. The Dutch centre-back was not in the squad, however.

Soumaré has played a significant role for Sevilla.

Finishing fourth and securing play-off spot, United face Aveley on Wednesday evening (7:45pm kick-off). Appiah could feature for the 19th time in the NLS if selected.

After confirming promotion from Sky Bet League 2 in midweek, Mansfield Town beat Gilllingham 2-1 at OneCall Stadium on Saturday to remain second in the table, though Lewis Brunt, who has made 34 appearances in the successful promotion bid, remains out of contention. The Stags’ final game of the season is away to Barrow this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Nathan Opoku’s injury kept him out of OH Leuven’s 1-0 success at home to Sint-Truidense V.V. on Saturday. The Jupiler Pro League Play-Offs continue tonight as OHL travel to Westerlo (7:30pm kick-off).

With no Eredivisie game this weekend, Zach Booth’s FC Volendam remain 17th and five points from safety ahead of travelling to Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday (1:30pm kick-off). The 20-year-old has two goals and one assist to his name in 19 league matches during 2023/24.
