A win which nudges the Foxes closer to their target of promotion from the Sky Bet Championship with just two games to play, Fatawu scored three times alongside solitary efforts from Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy.

It was a brilliant performance from Enzo Maresca's men, which puts City one win from the Premier League, while results elsewhere could also secure promotion before they head to Preston North End on Monday evening.

Fatawu's hat-trick doubled his league goals tally for the season in one night and the Ghanaian was thrilled to play such a pivotal role in such a significant victory.

Fatawu: So Amazing

Hat-trick hero Abdul Fatawu speaks after Leicester City's 5-0 win over Southampton on Tuesday.

"I’ve been trying!" he smiled. "The coach tells me to keep doing it. Today it went in again, so we’ll keep going until the end.

"[For the third goal], that moment was so difficult because I needed to just take my time and keep calm to put it into the net. At the end, it went in, so it’s so amazing for me."

Ahead of the trip to Preston next week, he added: "We are keeping the same energy. We’ll give it our all. We’re going there to win."
