Last weekend brought an end to an incredible, if not challenging, campaign for Leicester City, who were crowned champions of the Sky Bet Championship despite a final day defeat to Blackburn Rovers - the division's top scorer, Sammie Szmodics, scoring twice.

The defeat, however, couldn’t derail the Foxes’ promotion party, which carried on with the trophy lift on the pitch at King Power Stadium, where the Portuguese defender was on hand to summarise his emotions.

“It’s really nice to see people happy,” Ricardo stated. “Us, the fans, the staff, everyone celebrating together. It’s a very special day.

The party continued with the Trophy Parade on Sunday.

“Since the day we got relegated, we had this in our mind (promotion), and it’s been a difficult year with a lot of games, a new Manager and a way of playing but they’ve done well since day one.

“All the players accepted the new ideas well and he (Enzo Maresca) did really well to change the Club and we were reborn a little bit.”

Looking back 12 months ago, when the Club were relegated from the Premier League, the No.21 admits that football can hurt sometimes, but what is important was bouncing back.

'Really Nice To See People Happy'

Title-winner Ricardo Pereira speaks after lifting the Sky Bet Championship trophy on Saturday.

Explaining how many people look to the sport as a form of joy, the right-back was overwhelmed at the sights on Saturday, and was proud of his team-mates for coming together to produce a special moment for all those involved.

“Unfortunately, sometimes, bad things happen,” Ricardo continued. “We know the feeling we had before (when we were relegated) so it’s really nice to give people some happiness.

“Everyone has their own problems in life so to know this makes them happy and that they will celebrate like us is really special.”
