Foxes Back In Seagrave For Premier League Preparations

Leicester City’s Premier League return came into view on Monday morning as the Foxes squad reported to Seagrave for the start of pre-season testing.

An early start in north Leicestershire was on the agenda for the Sky Bet Championship champions, as Steve Cooper got a first look at his new squad in a football environment.

The new Manager was joined on day one by Assistant Manager Alan Tate, First Team Set Piece Coach Andrew Hughes, Goalkeeping Coach Danny Alcock and First Team Coach & Analyst Steve Rands to put the squad through their paces.

These formative days of pre-season could be when players make an impression on Cooper and his team, following the 44-year-old’s June appointment.

Jamie Vardy, Harry Winks and Stephy Mavididi were among those to return in the morning sunshine, while some of last term’s outgoing loanees were also back in Seagrave.

Others, including new signing Bobby De Cordova-Reid, are due to report for training later this month, afforded extra recuperation after representing their national teams.

The Foxes will mark their top-flight return against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday 19 August – but there’s work to do and strategies to be finalised before then.

Although the focus of the upcoming weeks will be on building fitness, this Monday was about assessing where the squad are at following the close-season period.

Having worked their way through an extensive variety of tests in the performance gym to assess their strength and power qualities, the squad headed to the indoor facility at the King Power Centre to be put through the paces in the SDS intermittent running test.

This was a key opportunity to impress the new coaching team as they pushed themselves to their max in this high-speed running test.

With the objective testing out the way, the players will soon get to impress on the training pitch before a friendly fixture calendar which includes dates domestic and abroad.

Cooper will inevitably be keeping a close eye on the progress of his new squad, as plans continue to hit the ground running and ensure a successful return to the top level.
