Remembering Former Foxes Wins Against Spurs
Leicester’s return to the top division starts this coming Monday on home soil, when Spurs make the trip to the East Midlands from the capital to take on Steve Cooper’s side at King Power Stadium.
Hoping to kickstart their campaign with a win in front of the Foxes faithful, here are three games where Leicester triumphed against Tottenham…
Leicester City 4 Tottenham Hotspur 1 (11 February, 2023)
Starting with the most recent win, City came out on top in the last meeting between the two sides just 18 months ago, and ran riot against Antonio Conte’s side, despite relegation later that term.
The visitors opened the scoring on Filbert Way, through Rodrigo Bentancur after 14 minutes, but two goals in two minutes from Nampalys Mendy and James Maddison put City in front before Kelechi Iheanacho gave Leicester a two-goal cushion heading into the interval.
The hectic action of the first half calmed down before the final ten minutes when winger Harvey Barnes increased the Foxes’ advantage to three goals. A magnificent home display, which fans will hope can be repeated at the start of next week.
Leicester City 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1 (21 September, 2019)
Our second game, and second home game, looks back to late 2019, when City came out on top in a three-goal fixture on Filbert Way where VAR decisions took centre stage. A goal disallowed for either side, first of all for the hosts, managed by Brendan Rodgers, when Wilfred Ndidi bundled it across the line.
Harry Kane, who now plies his trade in Germany for Bayern Munich, gave Spurs the lead on 25 minutes. Heading into the second half, it was the visitors’ turn to have a goal chalked off when Serge Aurier’s strike into the bottom corner was disallowed for Heung-Min Son’s offside position in the build-up.
This gave City hope in the fixture which Ricardo Pereira took when he levelled things up after the hour mark, before James Maddison was the one to haunt his now current club with a late winner with just five minutes left on the clock, with an exceptional strike from range.
Tottenham Hotspur 0 Leicester City 1 (13 January, 2016)
Our third and final fixture looks back to a historic win on the road, in an unforgettable season back in 2016, when Robert Huth’s bullet header ensured three points for Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes in north London.
Goalless heading into the final 10 minutes, the deadlock was final broken when a well-whipped in corner from Christian Fuchs met the head of the unmarked Huth, who did brilliantly to guide it across goal, beating both Hugo Lloris and Ben Davies on the line.
In what was a first City win in the Premier League at White Hart Lane since 3 October 1999, when Gerry Taggart scored the winning goal, the events of that season will continue to live long in the memory.
