Steve Cooper’s side took a point from their first Premier League fixture since returning to the top flight, coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur at King Power Stadium. De Cordova-Reid, who started Monday’s opener to make his Foxes bow, came away encouraged by the second-half performance against Spurs.

“It was a good one for us and especially for me making my debut,” the Jamaica international reflected. “We came out quite slow in what we were doing and we tweaked things in the second half and showed that we are a good team.

Vardy Rescues A Point From Spurs Bout

A snapshot look at Leicester City's return to Premier League football - a 1-1 draw with Spurs.

“We just wanted to put them under pressure. In the first half, we showed them a bit too much respect and I thought in the second half we got in their faces and gave them no time. Everyone was winning their duels.

“Then we looked like a dangerous team and it gave us a lift, it gave the crowd a lift and us the energy to drive forward. We were on the front foot, with a lot of energy and put them on the back foot.

“Maybe we could have won the game, but not to be too silly, we take the point and move on. It was a good second half, it’s a point on the board and it’s something to build on.”

The people have been great since I’ve been here. Hopefully we can continue giving them something to shout about.

The 31-year-old will be coming up against his former club for the first time since leaving in the summer, having spent five seasons at Craven Cottage, and while it will be a nice feeling to return to west London, he has quickly settled into life within the Foxes camp, thanks to the support of team-mates and the Blue Army.

He explained: “The lads have made me feel welcome from day one and there’s times where we’re going to have ups and downs, and we’ve got to stick together – fans as well. It’s going to be a long season, but hopefully an enjoyable one.

“It gives you a lift playing in front of these fans, it’s nice. They obviously gave us a boost. They’re great and the people have been great since I’ve been here. Hopefully we can continue giving them something to shout about with performances that show the heart and desire out there.”

We Could Have Won, Says De Cordova-Reid

Bobby De Cordova-Reid offers his thoughts on Leicester City's opening-weekend 1-1 draw with Spurs.

There is also a strong belief within the group that City can gain more points in the coming weeks and, after another week of work in Seagrave, the attacker has set his sights on further progression.

“We do it in training, we understand what we need to do,” the forward added. “Everyone knows they need to take the ball and play on the floor and we can mix it up as well.

“We’ve got to take every game as it comes, take the positives from them and then learn from the things that we can work on. There will be a few from both and we’ll take it into the next game and keep on going as the games go on.”
