Safe Standing: Evaluation Timeline Shared With FAB

Leicester City has updated the in-progress timeline of research and consultation with our Fan Advisory Board on safe standing, as the Club continues to evaluate its potential introduction at King Power Stadium.

- LCFC to further assess safe standing introduction at King Power Stadium
- Timeline updated to Fan Advisory Board at October meeting
- Evaluation with fans, suppliers and authorities to run to February

This was presented at our first FAB meeting in October. Data from preliminary consultations conducted in recent seasons was shared by the Club, along with early considerations on technical installation.

Project planning, cost evaluation, review of installation options and discussions with local authorities are scheduled to take place in time for a deeper consultation with supporters during December 2024. This will include obtaining feedback from fans on which sections of King Power Stadium may be considered for conversion to safe standing, implications for supporters in those areas and the wider stadium, and steps that may be necessary to ensure a smooth transition.

We intend to complete the evaluation project with supporters, suppliers and local authorities to discuss with FAB members at the group’s third meeting of the season on Wednesday 26 February.

Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: “Our renewed commitment to enhanced fan engagement means ensuring our supporters’ voices are heard on the topics that matter most to them. Over the course of recent seasons, few subjects have generated a more impassioned response than safe standing.

“Considerations for the introduction of safe standing areas has formed part of our long-term plans for the expansion of the stadium site for some time, and that continues to be our position. However, with new cost-effective options for installation becoming more accessible in a shorter timeframe, we feel the time is right to bring the conversation forward and look at complementary options that may be introduced quickly in parallel to our longer term plans.

“The Club and the FAB are aware that such a change has the potential to affect a large number of supporters, the atmosphere in the stadium and the wider matchday experience. With this in mind, we will be conducting a series of wide-reaching consultations and briefings with our supporters, to ensure all match-attending fans have the opportunity to make themselves heard.”

Further information on our planned programme of consultation will be released by the Club in the coming weeks. Click HERE to learn more about our Fan Advisory Board and how you can get involved in fan engagement with Leicester City.
