Promotion For Ward & Wales In Nations League
- Danny Ward played 90 minutes for Wales on Tuesday evening
- Liam Cullen scored twice in the win over Iceland
- The Dragons topped League B Group 4 in the UEFA Nations League
Tuesday evening saw a big game for Wales, who started the day in second position and took on third-placed Iceland, at Cardiff City Stadium, as they aimed for a win in their game and for Montenegro who faced leaders Turkey, to ensure their promotion to League A.
On the bench in their first game of the break, the Leicester City goalkeeper was named in Craig Bellamy's starting XI on home soil, but saw the game start off on the wrong foot, when Andri Gudjohnsen put Iceland in front after seven minutes.
It took until the half-hour mark for Wales to draw back level through Cullen before the Swansea City midfielder completed his brace just before the break.
Two goals from Premier League duo Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson saw Wales run out clear winners during the second half in Cardiff, and with the news flooding around the stadium that Turkey had lost 3-1 to bottom-placed Montenegro, their night was about to get better.
Thanks to Nikola Krstovic's hat-trick, Wales had claimed top spot on the final stretch, winning it by one point having won three of their six games in the group.
The win brings an end to a positive international break for City's shot-stopper, who returns to Seagrave and rejoins with the squad ahead of the Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday afternoon (12:30pm GMT kick-off) at King Power Stadium.
