Result Tough To Take For Morgan

- The Leicester City skipper was frustrated as his side continue their search of a first 2016/17 Premier League away win 

- Goals from James Ward-Prowse, Jay Rodriguez and Dusan Tadic sealed three points for the Saints 

Wes Morgan was left frustrated at the final whistle on Sunday after his Leicester City side were at St. Mary’s Stadium. 

The Foxes started well in both halves on the south coast, but Claude Puel’s men unlocked the City defence after 26 minutes thanks to a neat finish from James Ward-Prowse. 

Southampton doubled their advantage with six minutes of the first period to play through Jay Rodriguez and while Demarai Gray had several attempts on goal, he could not convert. 

Dusan Tadic’s spot kick on 85 minutes eventually sealed the three points for Sunday’s hosts and for Morgan, the result proved particularly difficult to accept given the Foxes are yet to win on the road in the Premier League this term. 

“It was very difficult,” the skipper told LCFC TV. “It’s frustrating to not pick up an away win yet. We tried to change that today, but that wasn’t the case. 

“I thought we started not too badly. We were competing and we were in the game. We had a few half-decent chances. 

“But it didn’t go for us and it’s always difficult to go in 2-0 down at half-time.” 

City have showed character to come from behind as recently as Saturday 7 January, when Ahmed Musa struck twice to record a . 

But despite coming out fighting in the early stages of the second half at St. Mary’s, Claudio Ranieri’s outfit couldn’t break down a well-organised Saints defence. 

Morgan added: “There was a lot of discussion at half-time and we all came out in a positive frame of mind. We were on the front foot and were winning the battles. 

“We couldn’t find a break in the game, so maybe it was just a little bit of luck that would have given us that chance to score. 

“The longer the game went on, we pushed forward, so we were vulnerable on the counter-attack. To concede at the end wasn’t good, but I felt that we kept going. Today wasn’t our day.”
