After netting a late equaliser to help 10-men Leicester City come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Stoke City, Daniel Amartey praised the spirit his team-mates exuded during the display.

Claudio Ranieri’s outfit had Jamie Vardy sent off inside half an hour after his challenge on Mame Diouf and in a frantic following 15 minutes, Stoke found themselves 2-0 up.

Bojan converted a penalty to break the deadlock, before Joe Allen’s tap in in first-half injury time doubled the Stoke advantage.

But City rallied and when Leonardo Ulloa nodded in with 16 minutes to play, they had a lifeline – cue Amartey’s 88th-minute header, right in front of the near 3,000 members of the travelling Blue Army.

“Everyone is delighted. We needed a goal and I got it, so everybody is happy,” Amartey told LCFC TV after the game.

“I’m very happy to score and the team needed it. I went straight to the fans because at 2-0 down they were still singing. It was good to go and celebrate with them.

“When we went in at half-time, Claudio [Ranieri] talked to us and Kasper [Schmeichel] talked to us and we all talked to each other. We said we have to come back and fight together to get two goals.

“It’s hard to play with 11 men and when you are short one player it’s very difficult, but we came back and we were disciplined.”

Amartey was also impressed with Ulloa and Demarai Gray, who both came on in the second half. Within two minutes of being on the pitch, they combined for City’s first goal.

Amartey added: “For me it’s good because you have to be ready for every game on the pitch because you don’t know what will happen.

“I’m very happy for Demarai [Gray] and the others that came on. They changed the game for us.”
