Vardy: I'm Just Glad To Get Three Points
- The England striker’s goal was City’s third in a 3-2 victory at the Hawthorns
- Vardy praises Leicester’s resilience after they come from 1-0 down to win
- It was the eighth consecutive league game Vardy has scored in
- Only Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Daniel Sturridge have done the same in the Premier League
With three Barclays Premier League points on the line, Jamie Vardy says there was no way he was going to miss after being put through on goal late on against West Bromwich Albion.
The Foxes fought back from 1-0 down at the Hawthorns to claim a 3-2 victory, with Vardy’s brilliantly worked goal in the 77th minute proving decisive. After playing a one-two with Danny Drinkwater, the striker raced clear of Jonny Evans and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
It put the Foxes 3-1 up and saw the England man score for the eighth consecutive league game – only Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Daniel Sturridge have achieved the same feat.
It was a win that moved Claudio Ranieri’s side up to third in the table and speaking afterwards, Vardy revealed that he never believed he’d miss once he was put through.
“When I scored, there was only going to be one winner in that race,” he said. “That was it, I was clean though on goal.
“The ‘keeper saved one in the first half and tipped it on to the post. So as soon as I did the neat little one-two with Drinky then there was no way I was going miss that one.
“I needed it to keep the run going. It’s turned out to be the goal that gave us the three points.
“Their right back was a centre half so he was coming across a lot, but that’s what you have to do, you have to break teams down. And we did it, with three goals to our name.”
It was the sixth time this season that City have secured points from losing positions and although Vardy was again pleased to help his side show their resilience, he felt they were unfortunate to be behind.
He explained: “We were a bit disappointed at half time, we didn’t think we deserved to go in 1-0 down at a set play.
“We can’t be too disappointed. We’ve been in this position a lot, and it’s getting too much to be honest with you.
“We need to start taking our chances earlier, getting in front and dominating games.
“You have to keep going until the end. We had to dig in deep at the end, I’m just glad to get three points.”
