Intense Day Of Work For City Stars
- Foxes complete double training session in humid conditions out in Austria
- Third day saw players contest several entertaining in-house 11-a-side matches
- City stars were paid a visit during the evening session by Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and Vice-Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha
Following on from a first full day, the Foxes – expecting an early downpour that didn’t arrive until the afternoon – began the morning with a series of drills on the sun drenched Velden training pitches.
A competitive 11-a-side match, consisting of three 15-minute games, took place prior to lunch, before the Club’s stars enjoyed some downtime.
A much muggier session followed in the evening, when the Foxes were paid a special visit by Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and Vice-Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, who watched on as Craig Shakespeare’s men got down to work.
Reflecting on City’s third day in Austria, captain Wes Morgan said: “It's been very, very tough, but that's to be expected.
"We're starting to adjust to it now - it's been very hot but the constant football and training means the boys are adapting to that."
The day was made all the more interesting when Mayor of Velden Ferdinand Vouk and Vice Mayor Helmut Steiner presented Leicester boss Shakespeare with a handcrafted wooden carving of the patron of saint of footballers, Luigi Scrosoppi.
Produced by the official supplier to the Vatican, the carving was also handed over by Robert Kenney – a Velden native whose father Bobby, born in Whetstone, came to Austria as a soldier during the Second World War.
Bobby settled in Velden with his wife, but would often fly over to England to watch Leicester City in action. Robert can even be seen above sporting his father’s old club tie.
On Wednesday, the Foxes have a lighter training schedule, while Thursday sees them return to a double session set up.
