The Spaniard joined City for an undisclosed fee from FC Sevilla on a four-year contract earlier this month and has since been put through his paces by Craig Shakespeare’s coaching team. Perhaps more importantly, however, Iborra has also had the opportunity to acquaint himself with his new Foxes colleagues in the picturesque southern Austrian town of Verden.
Speaking to LCFC TV this week, the 29-year-old said: “I am enjoying my first days of pre-season because the atmosphere of the team in training, in concentration and the hotel is very positive. This is more important for training and preparing for the new season which will be difficult.
“[The welcome has been] very good. When I say before, the atmosphere is good and positive. The team-mates have helped me in the first days. For me, this is important because I like a good human group. For me, it is the most important thing.”
Iborra Enjoying Pre-Season
Vicente Iborra talks about a positive week in Austria, as well as how his team mates have helped him settle in.
Despite playing his football in Spain for the past 10 seasons, even Iborra has found the sweltering conditions in Austria to be a challenge. Working in temperatures topping 30 degrees to prepare themselves for the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong next week, Shakespeare's men have been seeing the benefits of their efforts during in-house 11-a-side matches.
Iborra also revealed that he is starting to understand City's approach under Shakespeare with just under a month to go until they travel to Arsenal for the opening evening of the new Premier League season on Friday 11 August (7:45pm kick-off).
“For the moment, my adaptation is very good,” he added. “It is a new experience with new team-mates and a new idea of football. I am working for my team-mates because, in a little time, I have learned the ideas and the philosophy of the coach and my new team-mates.”
