Shakespeare Lauds Hong Kong Experience
- Craig Shakespeare reflected positively on Leicester City’s Premier League Asia Trophy experience
- The Foxes lost 2-1 to Liverpool in the final on Saturday at Hong Kong Stadium
- City return to England on Monday, before taking on Luton in a friendly on Wednesday (7.45pm kick-off)
The Foxes were edged 2-1 by their Premier League opponents, as Mohamed Salah cancelled out Islam Slimani’s opener before Philippe Coutinho won it for the Reds.
Time on the pitch has of course been pivotal and for Shakespeare, it is the way in which his players have applied themselves that has been most pleasing.
Shakespeare told the media: “It has been a pleasure to be a part of it. It is my first ever visit to Hong Kong. The Club and individually we have been made to feel so welcome. We have enjoyed it.
We go back to the UK with more fitness levels in us, which is important.

“We have to deal with the humidity and different aspects of it but you have to be positive about these experiences.
“To the players they have been positive. In every training session they have given us every ounce and you saw in the two games we acquitted ourselves very well.
“We go back to the UK with more fitness levels in us, which is important, we have two games under our belt, not all 90 minutes, but we can build on that and on the training field as well.”
Shakespeare Reviews Liverpool Defeat
City boss Craig Shakespeare gives his thoughts on the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Hong Kong Asia Trophy final.
While beaten, Shakespeare cited the number of opportunities his side created as a positive to take from the game.
He added: “We have more games coming up and I think you saw offensively in the first half the quality of the opposition.
“I thought it was a very even game. I thought we gave as good as we got. It was very even and we created some really good chances as well.”
