- George Thomas signs for Leicester City Football Club on a three-year deal
- The 20-year-old attacker scored nine times in 36 appearances for Coventry City last term
- Leicester-born Thomas scored the decisive goal in Coventry City’s EFL Trophy victory at Wembley
- The Wales youth international made his professional debut at the age of just 16
The 20-year-old attacker, who can play both as a striker and in midfield, joins for an undisclosed fee after a breakthrough 2016/17 campaign for the Sky Blues that saw him score nine times in 36 appearances.
Born in Leicester, Thomas came through the ranks at Coventry City before making his professional debut as a 16-year-old in League 1 against Leyton Orient in January 2014.
He continued to make a growing impact for the Sky Blues over the next few seasons, before ending the last campaign as the club’s top scorer with seven goals.
He scored the decisive goal at Wembley in May as Coventry overcame Michael Appleton’s Oxford United 2-1 to lift the EFL Trophy and picked up even more experience out on loan with Yeovil Town during the 2015/16 campaign.
Thomas scored at Wembley in the Checkatrade Trophy Final for Coventry City in 2017.
Regarded as one of the most promising young prospects in the Football League, Thomas has already made more than 50 professional appearances in League 1 and League 2.
In that short time, Thomas’ outstanding work-rate, eye for goal and calmness under pressure quickly made him a fans' favourite for Coventry City.
Thomas is also a Wales youth international, having represented them at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 level.
He featured in this summer’s Toulon Tournament in France as part of the Wales Under-20 squad and impressed as he scored both of his side’s goals in a 2-2 group stage draw with Ivory Coast.
