After a first half dominated by the visitors, Okazaki’s introduction, replacing Leonardo Ulloa, proved to be the spark for City to take hold of the Round 3 tie at King Power Stadium.
Okazaki scored the opener for Craig Shakespeare’s men in the 65th minute before Islam Slimani made sure of the result with an excellent long-range effort late on.
Assessing the clash on LCFC Radio, former Foxes defender Taggart said: "Talk about a game of two halves. It all kicked off through the introduction of the Japanese livewire, Shinji Okazaki.
“He transformed the whole outlook of this game. People will say it was the removal of Philippe Coutinho which changed matters but Okazaki transformed the game.
“He took it by the scruff of the neck. Leicester looked like a different team in the second half. Scoring the two goals killed Liverpool off.
“With a great finish from Slimani to round it off, it was a well-deserved win – in the end.”
