Hamer Credits Blue Army
Hamer has started both EFL Cup fixtures so far this season and was impressive again as Craig Shakespeare’s men kept a clean sheet against Jürgen Klopp’s Premier League title hopefuls.
The stopper watched on from the back as second half strikes from Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani booked City’s place in the draw for Round 4, which will be staged on Wednesday.
Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, Hamer said: “It was definitely a tale of two halves. The main difference tonight was when Shinji came on.
"He made a difference and lifted the whole place.
“He made a tackle and went on a burst and the whole momentum of the game changed. We got our two goals, one from Shinji, and an absolute worldy from Islam as well.
Hamer Pleased With Reds Victory
Ben Hamer gave his thoughts to LCFC TV after the 2-0 success over Liverpool at King Power Stadium.
“[Liverpool] did create quite a few good chances in the first half. They had a few shots on target that were quite comfortable for me to save. We got a lot better in the second half.
“Even from the start, [Shinji] is a great player. He has started the season unbelievably well. The lads love him here, he always gives 100 per cent and gives us an impetus.
“He lifts the place altogether and he has a habit of doing that. We’re happy to have him.”
Hamer revealed that Shakespeare called upon his players to up their work rate at half-time at King Power Stadium and the players took his comments on board.
When the crowd gets on our side, honestly they are so loud. They’re brilliant and it does give you a buzz.

“He’ll be happy with that,” he added. “At half-time he wasn’t happy. It is tough when you don’t play much and you come in.
“It’s a bit alien sometimes because you need a run of games to feel confident.
“As for us – and me - I’ll take a game whenever I can because I love playing and it’s enjoyable to play against big teams in front of a full house like this.”
Much better second half from the lads tonight. Great support again! See you on Saturday. Congrats to @HamzaChoudhury on his debut!

On the competition for places in his position, Hamer said: “We know about Kasper [Schmeichel] and his quality. He’s proved a hard man to shift!
“Eldin [Jakupović] is another quality 'keeper. We’re always pushing each other and, when you get a chance, you have to take it.”
Finally, Hamer expressed his gratitude to the Blue Army for their support after they packed out King Power Stadium for the Round 3 tie.
“When the crowd gets on our side, honestly they are so loud,” he continued.
“They’re brilliant and it does give you a buzz. I’m sure it lifted the lads in the second half and we got the two goals and held on firm.”
