Shakespeare Praises Work Ethic Ahead Of West Brom Clash

The City manager wants his side to start turning performances into results after collecting five points from their opening seven Premier League fixtures.
With the Baggies visiting King Power Stadium on Monday, Shakespeare believes it is the perfect opportunity to get three points on the board.
“I think the school report would say ‘could do better’,” said Shakespeare of his side’s form. “I don’t hide behind that.
“We’ve had some real decent performances that have not got the results that they’ve probably merited, but we’ve also had performances where we’ve been fortunate to come away with points at times.
“That’s football and that’s life. I think we have a great opportunity against West Brom at King Power Stadium on Monday to try and not only gather three points but to put in a performance too because I see it every day in training.
“The hardest thing sometimes is to translate that into the game, but their work and work ethic I’ll never doubt.
“I’ve spoken about trying to win the ball back at certain times a bit more, but that’s every coach. Every manager will tell you that they’ll work on little things each week that they can improve on.”
After a difficult start to the season, Shakespeare and his men are now seeking a string of competitive displays and consistent results.
He added: “What you want to do is be consistent, whether you’re playing the top four teams or whether you’re playing the teams that are in or around you at the moment.
“I’ve always stressed the need to be competitive in all of the games. We have been but we want to strive for better performances and more points.
“All matches, I want to get something from, the players want to get something from. We never shy away from the importance, but ultimately, we have to make sure we are focused on the next game.
“We have to make sure that we’re focused on the next, which is West Brom and after that, Swansea.”
