Chilwell: Build On Filbert Way Form

- Chilwell wants his side to continue capitalising on their solid home performances
The Foxes have lost only to Chelsea and Liverpool on home soil this term and in Claude Puel’s first game as manager, they made easy work of defeating the Toffees.
First-half strikes from Jamie Vardy and Demarai Gray ultimately handed City the three points and for Chilwell, it was a job well done by his side.
“It was nice to get the start,” the Academy graduate told LCFC TV. “The manager showed confidence in me to start me in the first game which I was delighted.
“On a personal note, I wanted to prove to him that I can do the job in left midfield as well as in defence. It was a great win, especially at home in front of a crowd.
“That’s something that we really want to build on, like we have done over the past few years. We want to try and make this place a fortress and keep getting wins at home.”

Gray, a team-mate of Chilwell’s at Under-21s level for England, added to Vardy’s 18th-minute strike to hand City a 2-0 lead heading into the interval.
Chilwell continued: “We always seem to play together, whether it’s him in front of me or today when we’re both on the wing.
“We’ve known each other for a few years and we’ve played together and we were both just happy to get the start today.
“We said to each other before the game just play how we play and be confident to try and secure our places in the team.”
Having already made six appearances in all competitions for City at left back this term, Chilwell took up a left midfield position against Everton and says he enjoyed playing in a more advanced role.
“I don’t think I’ve actually played left wing before so high up the pitch since I was about 10 or 11 years-old,” he continued.
“It was something new, but obviously if I want to be playing there, then I’ve got to do a job there. I thought I did okay, but the important thing is that the team won.
“We got a clean sheet which is good, not just for the back four, but for the whole team too and we scored two good goals.”
Vardy’s sixth Premier League goal of the season came as a result of the Foxes being encouraged to play to their strengths on the counter attack by Puel, while City’s second came in somewhat fortunate circumstances.
Chilwell said: “We showed how could we can be on the counter attack so Claude has some in and said to us be solid in defence and then break how you have done.
“He’s seen how we can break so quickly so he’s really tried to drum that into us. The first goal was a great example of that.
“The second goal was maybe a bit lucky. We were high up the pitch and creating chances and we deserved the second goal.
“The way it came didn’t really bother us at all. The 2-0 lead going into half-time was massive. Going into the second half, if a team was going to score it was going to be us, but we didn’t have to. The clean sheet was important and the team defended well.”
