Left back Christian Fuchs scored a brilliant half-volley to open the scoring before Vicente Iborra’s header and a smart finish from Kelechi Iheanacho, while Rachid Ghezzal marked his maiden start for the Club with a magnificent curler from outside the visitors’ 18-yard box.

City's unrelenting work-rate, even when they were comfortably ahead, is something Puel took great pride in following his side's third successive victory in all competitions.

“I am satisfied about the performance, it was a strong performance,” he told LCFC TV. “I am happy about this game because all the team, all the squad, played very well with quality.

They took pleasure in their game tonight and we can build some good momentum together now so I hope we can continue in this way.

“They were fantastic goals, they gave a good feeling for our fans, and it is important to see this kind of performance because all the squad delivered very well.

“I am impressed by the desire to play the same way when we were leading with three or four goals, we had fantastic spirit to recover the ball even when we were winning well.”

Puel picked out Ghezzal, 26, for special praise, highlighting his contribution to the cause – which was rewarded with a sublime first goal for City in the 71st minute.

“People don’t know him for the moment, but he is a fantastic player with great attributes and he will be very useful for the future,” the Leicester boss added.

“It will be tough to put the team together for the next game but it’s a good thing. These difficulties show our quality and it's important all the players have game time.

“They took pleasure in their game tonight and we can build some good momentum together so I hope we can continue in this way.”
