Puel Hails City's Positive Mentality
- Claude Puel was pleased with the way Leicester City responded to conceding early on against Huddersfield Town
- The Foxes bounced back from Mathias Jorgensen’s effort to win 3-1 at King Power Stadium
- Kelechi Iheanacho, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy were on target for Puel’s men
Mathias Jorgensen put the Terriers ahead inside five minutes at King Power Stadium, but after a swift response, Kelechi Iheanacho equalised midway through the first half.
City were much improved after the break, as a superb free-kick from James Maddison and Jamie Vardy’s fine chipped finish earned a 3-1 win on Filbert Way.
“It was a tough game, a tough game,” Puel told LCFC TV. “It was difficult for us. Of course, we know this team sits deep and are difficult to find space [against] with 11 players behind the ball.
“We didn’t succeed to find space and perhaps we played square without finding a good solution in the first half. It was better in the second half of course and with more desire, but I think with good transitions, we played forward.
“We took the space and we have got a good reward. At the beginning of the game, it’s not enough. We conceded another goal and it’s difficult after to come back against a team like this. We have to correct this situation of course. This is a bad thing about our game.
“After, the fantastic feelings – of course our mentality, our strength to come back into the game. To concede the first goal and to come back is fantastic spirit, it shows the quality of my team.
Of course, for the next game, we have to correct our beginning of the game because we cannot in all the games this goal and these chances because it’s difficult to come back.

“On my bench also, I think, because the players coming off the bench played well also. It’s important to win this game at home with a good result and good mentality all the time.
“Of course, for the next game, we have to correct our beginning of the game because we cannot in all the games this goal and these chances because it’s difficult to come back.”
The Foxes next face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium on Tuesday 25 September in the third round of the Carabao Cup. For Puel, that is an opportunity for City to put together some momentum.
“I’m confident with my players,” he added. “I wanted to play a strong game with a good focus and concentration and they gave their best all the time in training sessions and in the game. After, we have to find a solution to come back in our game.
“Last game away against Bournemouth for example, it was a good start but the first chance we conceded the first goal. I don’t know for the moment but I hope we can quickly find a good response about our beginning of the game but of course I’m happy for the players.
“We have a good squad, good players, nice men, they give their best. And now it’s important to prepare our game against Wolves because we want to continue in the competition.
“It’s very important for our squad to give game time, to maintain a good spirit, to improve all the players in the squad. I hope we can make a good performance on Tuesday.”
