Petty Praises Under-23s' Resolve
- Ben Petty speaks to LCFC TV following the Development Squad's 1-0 win over Everton
- Darnell Johnson scored the only goal of the game in the 31st minute
- Leicester City's youngsters are now second in the Premier League 2 Division 1 table
- Petty was particularly enthused by the side's defensive performance in Whetstone
Darnell Johnson’s 31st-minute strike was enough for the Foxes to seal a fourth consecutive win in all competitions which propels them up to second in the Division 1 standings.
Now just a point behind the Toffees at the summit, who lifted the Premier League 2 crown in 2017, City next head to Swansea City next Monday (7pm GMT kick-off).
Reflecting on their success over Everton, Petty told LCFC TV: “We are delighted, it was a really tough game out there, the weather conditions and the pitch made it a very tough game.
Petty: City's Under-23s Were Terrific
Development Squad coach Ben Petty speaks to LCFC TV following the Under-23s' win over Everton on Monday.
“Everton obviously came with a game plan to keep it tight and they’re a physical side to play against. But I thought we came out on top, created the best chances and deserved the win.
“We started the season playing well, we weren’t quite getting the results but now the stats are great for the lads.
“We’ve tightened up at the back and defended brilliantly again tonight.
“I think that’s three or four clean sheets as well in the last month or so, so things are looking good and hopefully we can carry on for the rest of the season.”
I thought tonight we were terrific, we owed one there to Viktor [Johannsson] at the end with a great one on one save but apart from that we’ve defended really well.”

City’s defensive resolve in the latter stages, as a host of substitutes for the visitors tested Viktor Johansson in the hosts’ net, also pleased Petty.
He continued: “The lads have got the grit between their teeth, they’re training really well, working hard on the training pitch, and we do a lot of work out of possession.
“I thought we were terrific, we owed one there to Viktor [Johannsson] at the end with a great one-on-one save but apart from that we’ve defended really well.”
