- Brendan Rodgers speaks to LCFC TV to reflect on Leicester City’s 2-1 loss at Burnley in the Premier League
- Harvey Barnes opened the scoring before Burnley drew level through Chris Wood
- Jamie Vardy had a penalty saved prior to Ashley Westwood’s winner
The Foxes, despite taking the lead through Harvey Barnes, were beaten 2-1 in Lancashire after Jamie Vardy had a penalty saved and Burnley found the net through Chris Wood and Ashley Westwood.
Rodgers noted an improvement in his side’s performance, but was frustrated with the two goals they conceded against the Clarets.
“It’s an easy game to analyse and dissect,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. “I think that we were the better team, we had a host of chances to win the game and played reasonably well in terms of the performance, but it’s a mix of their goalkeeper (Nick Pope) making some fantastic saves and us missing good opportunities.
“Then, I suppose the biggest disappointment is the second goal because I would expect my midfield players to track runs into the box and [Ashley] Westwood had a greater desire to score than what we did to stop it.
“That’s the big disappointment for us, that if you win games, you have to earn that right. Like I say, we played better today. We were more dynamic in our game and created opportunities, but we have to be better.”
While disappointed with the overall result, Rodgers was pleased with Barnes’ goalscoring contribution after the Academy graduate netted his second strike in three games in all competitions.
He added: “The important thing for us was getting back to creating the opportunities. We had a lot of good creativity today.
“Harvey [Barnes], I was delighted with. It’s important that the front players help Jamie [Vardy] in terms of goalscoring, so I thought there was a greater threat with him and Ayo (Ayoze Pérez) today.
“He took his goal really, really well and gave us a good start in the game. Burnley are very good on set-pieces, so sometimes you will concede.
“He gets a good run, Ben Mee, and we just didn’t deal well with the second ball. Then, we obviously have other opportunities, including the penalty, to get in front.
“It’s just one of those days for us. It’s easy to analyse, but now we have to go away and look to get our three points, but also a performance, on Wednesday.”
