Wesley Fofana says it was an easy decision to join Leicester City after signing a five-year contract at the Football Club upon completion of his move from AS Saint-Étienne on Friday.

The 19-year-old, who describes himself as a 'soldier' in defence, has quickly emerged as one of the most promising talents in his native France and joins a Foxes side which currently sits atop of the Premier League.

Speaking to LCFC TV at King Power Stadium, Fofana explained his reasoning for joining Leicester and elaborated on why it was always the club he wanted to sign for once their interest was declared.

“I chose Leicester pretty much straightaway, despite other interest,” he said. “It’s the club I wanted to go to the most - they have the best projects in place and the whole club has been very welcoming.

“It’s a very big English club. I’ve followed the team for a while, especially when they were crowned champions in 2015/16. For me, it’s gives me great pride to be here.

“They’re in great form. They’ve won every match so far. They put in a great performance last weekend against Manchester City. It’s great.

Fofana joins the Club having built a big reputation in France's Ligue 1.

“I know a lot about the Premier league, I’ve followed it since I was very young. Leicester, I’ve followed a lot and would often watch their games. I’m very, very happy to be here, and very proud as well.”

Fofana is looking forward to linking up with his new team-mates, many of whom speak French, while also working with Brendan Rodgers, a manager he has admired from afar for some time.

“That will help me, I think,” he continued. “It will be easier for me to speak to them, and there are also a lot of French speakers here who will help me to settle in the team.

“I will learn a lot I think as they have a lot of experience and I’m still a young player. I’d like to learn what I can from everyone to help progress and improve my game.

Wesley says he is excited to get started in Leicester's colours.

“[Rodgers] is a top coach who has had a great career. He’s a really, really good coach. I’ve already spoken to him and I know he’ll help me to progress and I’ll make sure I listen.”

Wesley joins a Leicester team in excellent form in the Premier League, while Rodgers’ men will also participate in the UEFA Europa League group stage after a fifth-placed finish in 2019/20.

“I’m a solid defender, I enjoy going in for tackles, I like a good battle, I’m a soldier and it’s the perfect league for me!” he said, when describing what qualities he wants to bring to the Foxes.

“Despite my age, I have a lot of ambition. I want to succeed in the Premier League, to play well, establish myself in the team and continue to be ambitious.

“I’m very excited. The Europa League is a big competition and I’m very excited. To the Foxes fans, I’d like to say I’m so happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”
