- LCFC Women sign Courtney Nevin from Hammaby IF
- The defender has represented her country Australia
- Nevin brings experience of multiple leagues at just 20 years of age
- She believes the Swedish league matches the Barclays Women’s Super League in terms of physicality
Following the departures of Georgia Brougham and Demi Vance, the Foxes have brought in Courtney Nevin – a player capable of playing as a left-back or left-sided central defender, increasing the options available to manager Willie Kirk.
The 5ft 5in international has played in both Australia and Sweden, most recently at Hammarby IF from the Damallsvenskan, where she scored three goals from the backline.
Upon signing for City, Nevin explained her joy to have joined the Barclays Women’s Super League Club, in a first interview with LCFC TV.
“It feels good to be here, I’m excited,” the new signing stated. “I went to the training ground today and saw everything and I can’t wait to get stuck in and start working.
“I’m a left-back, I like to get down the wing a lot and create play. But also, as a defender, I like to get stuck in and make big tackles.”
In 2018, during a three-year stint with Western Sydney Wanderers, the defender spent a year with striker Remy Siemsen, who joined the Club only a couple of weeks ago, and Nevin is excited to link back up with an old friend.
“Me and Remy [Siemsen] are good mates, we go back a long time,” Nevin revealed. “We’ve played together in Australia so we know each other well, and I can’t wait to play with her again.
“Hopefully I can get some assists by supplying Remy, but also the other players!”
Nevin was keen to show her excitement for playing in England’s top division and explained how she hopes to benefit the team.
“I think that Leicester have so much potential, and they have a good plan in place,” she continued. “There is a clear sense that they’re going somewhere, so I’m excited.
“The Swedish league is very similar to the WSL in terms of physicality, and hopefully I can bring those attributes to the team and help us stay in the league and win some points.”
