- New recruit George Thomas is excited by his chance to shine at the Club
- The Leicester-born midfielder, 20, joined the Foxes for an undisclosed fee from Coventry City
- Thomas wants to make his mark at King Power Stadium as quickly as possible
The 20-year-old midfielder - who has represented Wales at U17, U19 and U20 level - went to school in Leicestershire and still lives in Wigston, just under three miles from the Club’s training ground.
After scoring nine goals last term, including the winner in May's Checkatrade Trophy final, Thomas earned a reputation as one of the most promising prospects in the Football League.
On his first day at City, he told LCFC TV: “I’m buzzing, I’m delighted to get it over the line finally and I’m looking forward to the season coming and seeing what I can do.
“I’ve seen a few of the boys in the changing room. It’s all good at the minute. The facilities are unbelievable and I just can’t wait to get started.
“It’s my hometown, I only live 10-15 minutes away in Wigston. It’s always good to play for your hometown team so hopefully I can push on from here.”
Having made his professional debut for Coventry at just 16, Thomas will bring a wealth of experience to the Club’s Development Squad this term despite his young age.
“I’ve played 50 odd games at professional level so maybe I have got that head start over other 20-year-olds in the country,” he added. “Hopefully I can use that experience to get into the first team here.”
Thomas scored twice for Wales at the Toulon Tournament this summer, a contest eventually won by England, who had City duo Harvey Barnes and Elliott Moore among their ranks.
Reflecting on his time in France, the Leicester-born middle man said: “It’s always an honour to play for your country.
“I’m thankful to them for giving me my chance, it’s always a good experience. It helps me too to be playing against the top players from all over the world.
“I didn’t see [Barnes and Moore] out there but I know Elliott. I used to play against him at Oadby Owls and Ibstock when we were eight-years-old.
“Obviously I played against Harvey at MK Dons so it’ll be good to meet the lads and see what we do this year.”
Looking ahead to his maiden campaign with the Foxes, Thomas concluded: “The aim is to play first team football and try and help the Club.
“That’s the aim, to try and hit the ground running.”
