‘Big Heart’ From City Thrills Rodgers
- Brendan Rodgers says Leicester City got stronger and stronger as the game progressed against AFC Bournemouth
- City won 3-1 against the Cherries, extending their unbeaten run in the process
- Jamie Vardy scored his second and third goals of the season in the triumph
City put in another fine display at King Power Stadium, as Jamie Vardy struck twice and Youri Tielemans scored his first goal of the season to extend the unbeaten run to five games in all competitions.
Delighted with the way his side emerged triumphant in Leicester, Rodgers felt there was real quality in all three of the Foxes strikes.
“It was a very, very good performance, I thought we had to show, not just our quality today, we had to show a big heart,” said Rodgers. “Early on in the season when you play the third game in the week sometimes it can catch you out, but I think you see the physicality of the team, how they got stronger and stronger as the game went on.
“We took the goals well, playing against a good team that are fast and dynamic with good speed. But I thought our performance was very, very good. There are always areas we can work on but all of our goals had big quality.
“The second one, to get the finish was great and to get in the box with numbers in there and the third one is what the team’s about. Real aggression to win the ball back, hunting the ball, winning it and then having the quality to play in a tight space for Jamie [Vardy] to get his finish.
“[It was] thoroughly deserved, we had a couple of other opportunities in the second half, but physically I was so proud of the team and that’s the reward they get for all the work they’ve had since they’ve come back in pre-season.”
We’re a great team, we want more and we want to do better, so there’s areas of the game that we need to improve on of course but the players have absolutely given everything.

City’s positive start to the campaign has seen them accumulate eight points from four Premier League games, while also progressing in the Carabao Cup.
Giving his verdict on Leicester’s first five outings, Rodgers said: “I’m very pleased. I think that if you’d have said on the first day of pre-season, for the first international break you’ll be third and unbeaten and into the next round of the cup we’d have been very happy.
“But, of course, we’re a great team, we want more and we want to do better, so there’s areas of the game that we need to improve on of course but the players have absolutely given everything.
“They’re such a great bunch of boys who give everything and that’s what they did today on the field.”
