Foxes Beaten By Red Devils On Filbert Way

LCFC Women were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United on Sunday afternoon in the Barclays Women's Super League.

Still on the hunt for their second win of the campaign, it was Marc Skinner's side who took the points with goals in either half, first from Elisabeth Terland and then Celin Bizet at King Power Stadium, leaving City tenth in the standings with five points from eight games.

Two changes were made from the side that lost to West Ham United last weekend, with Asmita Ale coming out for CJ Bott, and Saori Takarada replacing Janice Cayman, going back to her youth days when she operated as a centre-forward. Nelly Las and Simone Sherwood were also on the bench after returning from the Under-17s FIFA Women's World Cup with England.

It was a promising start from the Foxes who were pressing high and looking to take the game to the Red Devils, creating a chance early on when Hannah Cain fired an effort over the bar from just inside the box.

Battling for possession.

The visitors then responded with a low header from Terland, who managed to break free from her defender but couldn't guide it goalwards and saw the ball flash past the far post.

Just past the half-hour mark, the best chance of the game fell to the Foxes when Yuka Momiki fought her way through the United defence but stalled and saw her effort blocked; the ball then fell kindly for Cain but the Welsh forward couldn't find the target and the chance went begging.

Right before the break, Leicester were left to rue that missed opportunity when Norwegian striker Terland headed home from a Geyse cross, after gaining distance with some skill, before finding the former Brighton & Hove Albion player at the back post.

Into the second period on Filbert Way, Missy Goodwin and Deanne Rose were introduced, to inject some fresh pace and energy on the wings, but it was Janina Leitzig who was called into action next, when the German made an incredible double stop, before her defence were able to clear the danger.

The Foxes fell to defeat on Filbert Way.

Sadly the hard work of the half were cancelled out when Bizet doubled Man Utd's lead, having got the better of CJ Bott, and finishing low under the legs of the former Bayern Munich 'keeper, who had come rushing out in an attempt to block the shot.

As the rain started to let up and the night descended on King Power Stadium, the late push of the Foxes couldn't break down the Manchester defence as the scoreline remained 2-0 at the final whistle.

Amandine Miquel's side are now back on their travels when they travel to play Brighton at Broadfield Stadium for the second time in four weeks; this time to face off in League Cup action next Sunday with a 2pm GMT kick-off.
