Rodgers: FA Cup An Important Competition For City

The Foxes entertain Paul Cook's Sky Bet Championship outfit at King Power Stadium currently sitting second in the Premier League on the back of consecutive victories.
Over past weeks, Rodgers has utilised the full depth of his City squad, who are also in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, and the Northern Irishman says that is a marker of Leicester's quality.
"We attack every game we play and we go into every competition to win," he told the national media on Friday afternoon. "That was something that I said when we first came.
"We want to have a significant run in this competition as well as the others. We want to keep winning games and, equal to that, we want to keep our performance level to the highest level that we can.
"If we can do that in every competition that we play, that’s what’s key for us. No matter where we were in the league, this was always going to be an important competition for us.
Rodgers: We Attack Every Game
Manager Brendan Rodgers addressed the national media on Friday to preview Saturday's visit of Wigan Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup.
"If I didn’t trust these players in the Premier League, I wouldn’t have put them in. They all respect that there’s been a team that’s been our team with one game a week.
"Of course, when I’ve had to change, it’s because of how the players work and the systematic approach to how we play.
"I was comfortable making the changes, knowing the players coming in would perform, and then you hope that they can and they have.
"They’ve been absolutely first-class; they’ve been brilliant in their attitude and quality. This is another opportunity for us to take a look, put out a team, to get through."
The FA Cup, meanwhile, is respected and held affectionately around the world and remains the only major domestic trophy which City have entered and not won.
Rodgers believes all coaches quickly acknowledge its significance to the English game - wherever they come from - while also outlining Leicester's desire to progress as far as possible.
"I think that every coach, every manager, in particular a British manager, they know the significance of it," he added. "I know a lot of the guys from around the world, they know the significance of it.
"Certainly for the British coaches, we grew up with it. We see it as a very, very important competition and we want to respect that and do the very best we can in it.
"I remember watching Norman Whiteside getting his winning goal (for Man Utd in 1985). He was from Northern Ireland, Norman, so that was great, but it’s tradition in this country.
"It’s such a prestigious tournament around the world and obviously the beginning of it is really exciting, so we hope that we can go as far as we possibly can in it."
