Job done for City
Steve Walsh said: “We had plenty of games like that under Martin O’Neill. You say: ‘Let’s just be resolute and get it done’. You see the game out and that’s what Leicester did. There’s a lot of games at the moment, so it’s a case of job done. Wes Morgan and Çağlar Söyüncü were strong, James Justin and Christian Fuchs as well, and there was no real danger. Now, focus on the positives and move on.”
A wonderful moment for Dewsbury-Hall
Matt Elliott said: “It was a wonderful moment for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. It was somewhat unexpected, but he would have been delighted just to be involved in the squad and the atmosphere. I didn’t expect him to get game time, but perhaps he was told before. He did more than okay. He slotted in nicely into the central midfield role, he dictated the pace of play, and he was tidy in possession. A wonderful occasion for him.”
The right moment for a debut
Gerry Taggart said: “He’s a highly-rated player and Brendan Rodgers will have seen a lot of him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s spent a lot of time training with the first team. Brendan was just waiting for the right opportunity and why not throw him in at the deep end? We saw what he’s made of in that game. He was neat and tidy on the ball, he never stands still, and that’s a very good trait to have as a midfielder.”
Assured Justin
Steve Walsh said: “James Justin was very assured. He’s a class act. He’s a good player. He was penned back a little bit by Dominic Thompson, but it was important that he got the assist for the goal. It was a brilliant ball in which showed his vision. He stood firm and he was able to recover whenever he needed to. Overall, he’ll be happy with that and he’ll take confidence from it. He’s certainly one for the future.”
Leicester do the basics right
Matt Elliott said: “Early on, I was impressed with Leicester. They looked very commanding. They were opening Brentford up regularly, but in the second half, that happened less and less. Eventually, it was a case of job done, but Brentford didn’t do what you may expect. They weren’t sending the ball into the box as often as you may have thought and Leicester defended well in those latter moments. They did the basics right.”
All eyes on Villa
Gerry Taggart said: “Even on the bus on the way back, they’ll be banging their heads together about Aston Villa. They’ll be planning meetings about formations and strategy in the game, the different scenarios. It is going to be about who keeps their nerve on the night. I’m sure Brendan has an idea of his starting XI and there’s a lot of work to do before the game, but it’s such an exciting occasion for the Club.”
