Norwich Collect Three Points As VAR Disallows Iheanacho Strike
Brendan Rodgers made three changes to the starting XI, and while top scorer Jamie Vardy missed out due to a calf issue, he was able to welcome Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi back onto the pitch in the second half.
The returning Hamza Choudhury, who was back available after serving a one-game suspension, headed former Norwich midfielder James Maddison’s corner over with just seven minutes played in Norfolk as City started with intent.
They continued to threaten and with 19 minutes on the clock, Dennis Praet smashed a volley straight at Tim Krul before the best opportunity of the first half fell to the Belgium midfielder, who struck the base of the post.
Spanish forward Ayoze Pérez was next to threaten as he twisted and turned before seeing his strike cleared off the line, and then forced Krul into a low save with eight minutes of the first half remaining.
There was, however, still time for Iheanacho to fire over from close range and Jonny Evans – defensively brilliant in the opening 45 minutes – to head into the arms of Krul on the stroke of half-time.
A cruel moment came for Leicester right at the start of the second period after Iheanacho, who curled into the bottom corner, had his strike disallowed for handball by VAR, despite it also hitting the arm of Ben Godfrey.
Pérez then headed wide at the back post as Leicester continued to threaten at Carrow Road, while a stunning save from Kasper Schmeichel saw the Dane claw Ondrej Duda's strike out of the top corner.
Schmeichel was on hand again just moments later to deny Duda as Daniel Farke's side looked to hit City on the counter, but they eventually found the back of the net with 20 minutes remaining.
Right-back Max Aarons lifted the ball to Jamal Lewis at the back post, and he took a touch before slamming his shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Opportunities for Ben Chilwell and substitute Youri Tielemans followed, but both strikes were blocked, while Schmeichel denied Josip Drmić at the other end late on.
Major moment
Exactly 20 minutes after Kelechi Iheanacho had a strike chalked off by VAR for handball, Jamal Lewis struck the decisive effort at Carrow Road.
Leicester were the better team in the first period and thought they had built on that success before Iheanacho's effort was ruled out, and that inspired Norwich to go on and win it.
Who impressed?
Tony Cottee told LCFC Radio at the full-time whistle: "It’s a difficult one because going forward, it’s hard to give it to anyone in that final third because that’s where they let themselves down.
"Ricardo Pereira was decent but I’m going to give it to Jonny Evans because he was defensively solid tonight."
