Gift Of A Wish 2020: Applications Now Closed

A working group of personnel from across the Football Club and Foundation Trustees will assess the applications in the coming weeks, aiming to approve applications and distribute funds by the end of May.

Launched by Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha on the anniversary of his beloved late father’s birthday earlier this month, the 2020 Gift of a Wish programme gives charities and community groups of all sizes in Leicestershire and Rutland an opportunity to apply for funding for their valuable work in our community. The application process opened on 10 April. 

For the 2020 programme, Foundation Trustees will be awarding grants to aid both those organisations supporting our community’s immediate coronavirus response, and organisations whose work will be significant in our community’s future emergence from the crisis. 

Susan Whelan, Leicester City Chief Executive and Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation Trustee, said: “We have received a fantastic number of applications supporting a broad range of programmes across Leicestershire & Rutland, demonstrating both some of the need that exists in our communities and the devotion of established groups to making a difference to people’s lives. 

“Assessing the applications is not an easy task because every cause will have its merits, but we have a robust process that balances the need for objectivity with the values of the Foundation that the Trustees seek to uphold. The potential for our players and staff to make a difference through our internal volunteering programme is also extremely important to us, complementing any financial support we can offer. 

“My thanks to every applicant that has taken the time to engage with us and make their case for support. Every application will receive appropriate consideration and we will seek to make the fairest decisions that positively affect the greatest number of people possible.” 

The 2020 Gift of a Wish programme complements work the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation has already undertaken with our community partners at University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust and Age UK Leicestershire & Rutland in response to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
