Rodgers Highlights Leicester's Recent Development

City have won their last six matches in all competitions in a run which has left them top of the Premier League after eight outings and at the summit of Group G in the UEFA Europa League.

With the early weeks of the new season including victories over the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Leeds United, SC Braga and Wolves, Rodgers has been delighted with the development on show.

"I think there’s a real sense that the players did really well last year," he explained. "When we spoke on it in pre-season, we understood that we want to continue to develop and improve.

"We’re not going to win every game, but the experiences of last year have allowed us to grow and develop as a team and we’ll look to put that in place this season.

"I don’t think we could’ve asked for a better start. Everyone probably questioned how we would start this season after the back end of last season, but I’ve always said that failing is learning.

"If anyone sees us not getting into the Champions League as failure, then okay. For us, it was about learning and developing and making sure we could continue to keep improving."

As well as delivering several excellent performances so far this term, Rodgers has also been struck by the attitude of his players, enabling them to secure landmark results.

The 5-2 success at Manchester City represented one of Leicester's best-ever results in the Premier League, while they ended a 47-year winless run at Arsenal shortly afterwards.

A 4-0 triumph over Braga, on the other hand, was the Club's biggest victory in European competition, contributing to a perfect start to life in the Europa League.

"You can see in this early stage so far, the mentality, the maturity and the quality has developed," the Northern Irishman continued, speaking after Sunday's 1-0 win over Wolves.

"Of course, it’s going to be tough to sustain that through the season, with all the injuries we’ve had and how close the games are, but at this moment in time, we’ve played 11 games.

"We’ve won nine in all competitions, so it’s been an incredible focus we’ve had in a period with so many players out, so our idea is to look to sustain that.

"I can’t promise it. I’d love to say we’re going to win every game, but we won’t and we will lose games, but like we did after the last defeat, we’ll learn from it, analyse it - and then let’s continue to move on."
