Leicester's Under-23s Suffer Spurs Defeat In Seagrave
Four changes were made from the 3-1 loss at West Ham United last month, as City lined up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, with captain Tyrese Shade partnering Jake Wakeling in attack.
The Foxes had secured a 5-1 victory over their opponents in the reverse fixture, but Spurs have since risen up the Premier League 2 Division 1 standings and sat in third ahead of kick-off.
It was a fast-paced opening in Seagrave and Leicester got off to the perfect start inside three minutes when Vontae Daley-Campbell's cross was flicked towards goal by Jake Wakeling and Marcel Lavinier could only turn the ball into the far corner of his own net.
Spurs' first real foray forward came via a strong run from Rafferty Pedder, who found J'Neil Lloyd-Bennett in space, but his first-time shot failed to trouble Jakub Stolarczyk.
It was the hosts who set the tempo throughout the half and Wakeling was in again when Kasey McAteer found the forward, but this time Spurs 'keeper Josh Oluwayemi made a smart low save to deny his right-footed effort.
However, Tottenham drew level just past the half-way point in the first period. Pedder was the creator, getting to the byline before pulling the ball back for Dilan Markanday to apply the finish.
The home side looked to regain the lead quickly, though, when Oliver Ewing's snapshot took a slight deflection and flashed narrowly wide of the post. At the other end, Pedder looked for a goal of his own and found Stolarczyk equal to his low attempt.
Khanya Leshabela's corner then fell to McAteer on the edge of the area, but his left-footed half-volley landed well over the bar.
Stolarczyk then had to make a diving save to stop Kion Etete after the visitors launched a quick counter attack. Shade also went close in the closing stages of the first half, firing a low effort that Oluwayemi had to turn behind.
Tottenham fashioned the first opportunity of the second period, on the other hand, as he fired in a left-footed strike that was close to nestling into the far corner. Stolarczyk was then called into action again to deny Lloyd-Bennett from close range soon after.
City got back into their rhythm as Daley-Campbell cut inside onto his right and unleashed a curling shot that took a deflection on its way wide, before Ben Nelson headed the resulting corner over.
Tottenham were also pressing for the crucial next goal and captain Jamie Bowden almost found it when his strike came back off the upright.
There was to be no let off for Leicester a minute later as Lloyd-Bennett whipped the ball into the far corner of the net, handing the away side the lead with just over 20 minutes remaining.
Etete could have settled the contest had he hit the target when the ball fell kindly on the edge of the area, but Spurs substitute Rodel Richards did put pay to any hopes of a Leicester comeback when, despite Stolarczyk getting a hand to the strike, he fired home a late third on 86 minutes.
Major moment…
The game was finely poised at 1-1 and the third goal was always likely to be prove decisive in a tight second half. The visitors managed to get it via J'Neil Lloyd-Bennett's fine finish to earn his side the three points.
Who impressed?
Oliver Ewing controlled the midfield during the first half, putting in an impressive display alongside Khanya Leshabela. The 18-year-old did not look out of place in the middle of the park at a higher level, regularly playing defence-splitting passes before being replaced in the 67th minute.
Where does it leave us?
Leicester are now 12th in the Premier League 2 Division 1 table, having collected 17 points from 20 games.
