Legends Help Pack Food Parcels As Distribution To Schools Begins
- Steve Walsh and Matt Elliott visit Samworth Brothers in Leicester to assist in assembling food parcels
- Leicester City have teamed up with Leicester City Council to provide families with ingredients to make tasty lunches at home
- Filbert Fox visited Taylor Road Primary School to help cook up one of the meals
The iconic Foxes duo visited Samworth Brothers earlier this week to assist with the packing, which will see over 420,000 food items be sent out to create approximately 70,000 meals across the school holidays.
The simple-to-make meals will be supplied via an initiative funded by Leicester City and Leicester City Council as some special guests, including two former City stars, were on hand to help out.
“We’ve been doing plenty today!” Elliott told LCFC TV. “We’ve had a run-down on exactly how the inner workings of this project are being put into place. Myself, Walshy and Filbert then got involved in actually packing the parcels themselves.
Elliott & Walsh Assist Local Community Food Parcel Project
LCFC TV goes behind the scenes as Matt Elliott, Steve Walsh and Filbert Fox help to distribute food parcels to thousands of local children.
“It’s great to be a part of this wonderful project in the community, and to serve a little bit of a purpose. It’s wonderful and I can appreciate the feeling of community in Leicester. I’ve been here long enough now, nearly 24 years, so I’m maybe an adopted son of the county and the city.
“It’s been a union of different parties. The Football Club and the council have come together as a force to unite and serve a real community purpose for children who are very much in need over half-term.
“It’s great to see. I’ve got a lot of pride being involved. On reflection, when you see the efforts that have gone in, I’m sure they will be very much appreciated. Nearly 14,000 children will be grateful recipients – over 100 schools within the city and the county.
“For the efforts that have been put in here, people deserve a lot of credit.”

Filbert was also in attendance at Taylor Road Primary School, one of the beneficiaries of the project, to help showcase how easy the meals are to prepare, alongside local schoolchildren Parl, Kavya, Megha and Fatima.
Cllr Sarah Russell, who watched on as Filbert and the four youngsters created their meals, commented: “We’ve got a brilliant initiative going on across half-term to try and get meal packs and activities out to children who are eligible for free school meals right across the city.
“It’s a brilliant partnership between Leicester City Council, the Football Club and Samworth Brothers, who have all been really supportive.
Filbert Fox
Taylor Road Primary School will see its pupils benefit from the initiative.
“My role includes social care, but it also includes anti-poverty, and one of the things that we’re really conscious of is the number of children in the city who worry about getting enough food to eat, especially during the holidays. It can be really tough for families, so something like this is fantastic.
“To have the Football Club and Samworth Brothers really stand up and not only support children, but actually put themselves forward to really get involved and support the initiative in all sorts of ways, has been absolutely amazing.
“All of the meals that they can cook across the next week or so are really easy and great fun for them as well. We’re giving kids skills for life, being able to cook simple, cheap meals to keep them going.”
