Pennant Strike Secures Young Foxes Impressive Chelsea Win
Coming up against a side who held a 100 per cent record in all competitions before their arrival in Seagrave, the young Foxes were looking to get back to winning ways after successive victories were followed by defeat at West Ham United last time out.
After taking six points from their first four league fixtures, Leicester had to defend only one real chance in the first half, which fell to Ronnie Stutter, who nodded over Kelechi Chibueze's crossbar from close range. It came following a well-worked corner routine for the visiting Blues at the Club's training ground.
Things opened up more in the second period with Leo Castledine blazing over for Chelsea while Silko Thomas was denied by Chibueze inside the penalty area. Will Alves, on the other hand, fired off target for Leicester shortly afterwards.
On 70 minutes, a direct forward ball from Chibueze ultimately led to the game's only goal as Pennant galloped down the left flank and calmly slotted it past Prince Adegoke to give the Club's Under-18s the lead. Stutter tested Chibueze again later on while Malik Mothersille also headed over for Chelsea.
The young Foxes climb up to seventh in the U18 Premier League South standings with nine points from their opening five matches and a goal difference of -1. Next up, they head to Southampton's Staplewood Training Ground on Saturday 2 October (1pm BST kick-off).
