- Elysia Boddy signs for LCFC Women
- The 18-year-old is a former Middlesbrough midfielder
- Boddy sat down with LCFC TV after her signing was confirmed
- She is delighted to be able to test herself at the highest level
The former Middlesbrough midfielder has switched Teesside for the East Midlands, joining Freya Gregory, Missy Goodwin and Esther Morgan as new recruits this winter.
The 18-year-old is now looking to test herself at the top level, linking up with the Barclays FA Women’s Super League outfit on a permanent deal that runs until the end of the current season.
“I’m over the moon,” she told LCFC TV in her first interview since arriving at Belvoir Drive. “I think it was a step that I needed to take and it’s a great club with great facilities, so I’m really happy to be here.
“I feel like Leicester is a place where they like to grow new players and young individuals, so I thought it was a good step for me to take.”
The Foxes' newest recruit, Elysia Boddy, is in the building.
The youngster has spent two seasons in the third tier of women’s football, competing in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division, making her senior debut at the age of 16.
With three goals in 15 appearances for Boro this term, after featuring eight times in 2020/21, Boddy will be hoping to bring her experiences to the Foxes, in order to hit the ground running when given an opportunity.
She continued: “I think that’s vital, being exposed to women’s football at an earlier age has helped me. Even training with the team, I’ve already felt like training with women rather than just girls, so it does help.
“I think it’ll help because I’ve already experienced playing with women. It now feels natural rather than it being a big thing for me. I’ve loved it, everyone is so welcoming and nice and Lydia [Bedford] and Brent [Hills], the coach, are great.
I now just want to help the team really and improve myself as a player and a person and experience new things.

“It’s intense, a lot more intense than what I’m used to but I’m really enjoying the challenge.”
Being selected for England youth camps from Under-15s to Under-18s age groups has only enhanced her development, now feeling prepared and ready to take on the next challenge in her career, after taking part in several sessions at the team's training base.
The playmaker explained: “It’s great to go from the league to experience St. George’s Park and the facilities there and the intensity of training, I love it.
“I now just want to help the team really and improve myself as a player and a person and experience new things.”
