Russell Finds A Love For Football Through Premier League Kicks
- Premier League Kicks sessions are for young people between the ages of eight and 18
- Russell began attending Leicester City in the Community’s PL Kicks free football sessions at Beaumont Park
- He now attends additional goalkeeping training with a Leicestershire grassroots football club
Funded by the Premier League Charitable Fund (PLCF), Leicester City in the Community provide free football provision during term time across Leicester and Leicestershire.
Russell had never played football before he discovered Premier League Kicks. After hearing about the local sessions through his school, Russell has developed a keen interest in the sport, particularly the goalkeeping position.
Speaking during his weekly session, he discussed how much Leicester City in the Community have helped him with his development.
“I saw these sessions and thought it was interesting, so I thought I’d try it out,” Russell began. “They have given me a lot of advice about goalkeeping; I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I am now communicating better, which is helping me develop my skills.”
Community Engagement Coaches at the Club’s charitable arm have been working with Russell to enhance his goalkeeping abilities, by adapting the sessions to suit his aspirations.
Russell is building leadership skills and will have the confidence to discuss match tactics with other members of the session. Since attending the weekly sessions at Beaumont Park, Russell now trains with Conrad Logan, the former City goalkeeper who plays for Anstey Nomads FC.
Shahbaaz Khan, Community Engagement Coach at Leicester City in the Community, reveals how much Russell has developed with both his passion and ability.
