Rodgers Delivers Pre-Brentford Fitness Update
- Leicester City host Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday (2pm kick-off)
- Çağlar Söyüncü (illness) could feature for the Foxes at King Power Stadium, says Brendan Rodgers
- Patson Daka (illness) may miss the clash with the Bees on Filbert Way
- Rodgers also provided updates on Wilfred Ndidi (knee) and Marc Albrighton (groin)
- Jonny Evans (hamstring), Timothy Castagne (thigh) and Jamie Vardy (knee) are recovering well
Speaking on Friday at LCFC Training Ground, less than 24 hours after City teed up a quarter-final tie against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Europa Conference League by beating Rennes over two legs, Rodgers turned his attentions to the next test for his side.
Brentford visit King Power Stadium on Sunday (2pm kick-off). Söyüncü missed Thursday's tie in France due to mild illness, as did Patson Daka, but the latter may require longer to recover. There was also positive news concerning Jonny Evans, Timothy Castagne and Jamie Vardy.
Evans (hamstring), Castagne (thigh) and Vardy (knee) are all working hard in their rehabilitation from their respective issues.
"Çağlar Söyüncü should be back," Rodgers said. "Him and Patson Daka didn’t feel well so they couldn’t travel. Çağs is much better. There’s question marks for Patson. Jonny Evans is close to being a part of the squad, which would be great for us. He’s worked really, really hard as well.
Hopefully Jamie should be back training with us within the next week or so, so that’s great news. He may not be too far away after the international break.

"Timothy Castagne should be back into it [soon]. Hopefully Jamie should be back training with us within the next week or so, so that’s great news. He may not be too far away after the international break."
Wilfred Ndidi and Marc Albrighton, on the other hand, were withdrawn in Rennes on Thursday. At full-time, the Foxes manager said Ndidi's issue was a knee complaint, while Albrighton's was a groin issue. They'll both be assessed by the Club's medical and sports science teams over the coming days.
"Ricardo Pereira and Ademola Lookman were guys who put themselves out there last night even though they weren’t 100 per cent, they weren’t feeling well," the Northern Irishman continued.
"Both those players came into the game and gave their all for the team so they should still be available. Wilfred Ndidi, we just have to assess him. He may have picked up an injury which may keep him out for a few weeks, which is a shame. Marc Albrighton had to come off.
"We have a really good squad when they’re available and that’s been the frustration this year. They haven’t always been available, but we’ll get some back, one or two might be out, but we’ll have to see what the scans show up later."
Fofana's Goal Ultimately Enough For City In Rennes
Wesley Fofana's first goal for the Club, in his return from injury, helps Leicester City to an aggregate victory over Rennes.
Wesley Fofana, meanwhile, made his long-awaited return after a fractured fibula injury sustained last August - scoring his first-ever goal for Leicester at Roazhon Park. After making that vital contribution, alongside a typically impressive performance, Rodgers called for patience as he builds full match fitness.
"He’s been out for such a long time, it’s always tempting with a player of that quality and that mentality," the 49-year-old explained. "He’s an elite young player who’s going to develop into a top-class player. It’s always tempting to want to put him in. We just have to be careful with him.
"He’s a fantastic talent. The recovery time is not so long in between [games], so we just have to gauge it over the next day or so. It’s just great to have him back on the field.
"You can see his impact, you see his mentality, that competitive edge… you can always draw a line to the top players between their talent and how competitive they are. I see that every day when he trains and then he takes that onto the pitch. You see his determination to get up for the header and to score.
"We’re delighted to have him back but we’ve just got to assess him on a daily basis now."
