Singing Section: What You Need To Know For The 2022/23 Season

The season-long trial, which follows a series of previous trials at home cup matches since 2020, will necessitate a reconfiguration of a limited section of SK1, details of which are outlined in this guide.

Background

Following a series of Singing Section trials at cup matches during the 2021/22 season, Leicester City undertook a period of consultation with supporters to review the success of the trial and its potential long-term implementation at King Power Stadium.

Singing Section trials were undertaken at the request of match-attending supporters to give like-minded fans an opportunity to congregate in a defined area of the stadium to provide sustained and coordinated vocal support for the team. Trials began in January 2020 with an FA Cup Third Round tie against Wigan Athletic and were resumed for four games during the 2021/22 season – domestic cup ties against Brighton and Watford and UEFA Europa Conference League ties against Rennes and AS Roma.

During each trial, the Club has tested different locations, configurations, and ticket sales processes, to establish the appetite for such a section, its bearing on all match-attending supporters and its impact on the matchday atmosphere.

What our fans told us

A survey was issued to all Season Ticket Holders and supporters that have purchased tickets in the Singing Section for matches in which it has been trialled. Supporters were also invited to participate in a workshop to examine the results of the survey, a selection of which can be viewed HERE.

Of the responses received to the survey, 90 per cent of all respondents were in favour of the Singing Section becoming a regular feature at King Power Stadium, with 87 per cent supporting its introduction for all league and cup matches.

Through survey responses and the workshop discussion, the Club was able to gauge further views on the optimal positioning of a Singing Section and the potential reconfiguration that would be necessary to create an environment that would maximise its impact.

2022/23 Season Singing Section Trial

Having analysed the success of previous Singing Sections with participants, our Season Ticket Holders, and members of key supporter groups, the Club can confirm the following process for the 2022/23 season.

Singing Section Location: SK1; Rows M to PP; seats 1 to 29 and seats 208-218.

Seats in the above area of SK1 will be initially frozen when the renewal process starts on Tuesday 17 May.

Current Season Ticket Holders in the affected area of SK1 may either:

1. Apply for a seat in that section through the online process accessible via HERE, which will be open between Tuesday 17 May and Monday 30 May. There will be no guarantee of retaining your existing seat, but a seat in the Singing Section will be available to you should you wish to renew there.

2. Contact the City Sales Centre to organise a relocation. This process will be completed immediately and you will not be asked to wait until the general relocation period. You may also reassess your choice of seat during the wider relocation period, should a preferable seat become available.

Applications for current occupants to be part of the Singing Section will close on Monday 30 May. Seats will be released on sale for successful applicants to purchase on a first-come-first-served basis between 9:00am on Tuesday 7 June and 5:00pm Wednesday 8 June.

Season Ticket Holders relocating into the Singing Section

Those wishing to relocate into the Singing Section from other areas of the stadium will be invited to do so once availability is determined following renewals of current occupants. Season Ticket Holders wishing to relocate INTO the Singing Section should:

1. Renew their Season Ticket in their current seat.

2. Complete the online application to form part of the Singing Section HERE between 5:00pm on Tuesday 17 May and 5:00pm Monday 30 May.

Any available seats in the Singing Section will be made available for relocation ONLY to those that have applied to join the Singing Section. These relocations will take place from 9:00am on Thursday 9 June, subject to availability.

If you are successful in relocating into the Singing Section, your current seat will become available for general relocations or new purchases.

The 2022/23 Singing Section will be a season-long trial, which will be subject to regular review throughout the campaign to assess its impact on the matchday atmosphere and its long-term potential. Supporters are welcome to provide their feedback throughout the season by email to SingingSection@lcfc.co.uk providing their Supporter Number to ensure feedback can be appropriately categorised.

In enhancing and extending the Singing Section trial, the Club is being responsive to the wishes of a considerable number of match-attending supporters, building on previous trials that have had a positive impact on the matchday atmosphere.

The Club recognises that this trial will displace a number of supporters from locations in the stadium to which they feel attached and will explore every option possible to ensure affected supporters receive the best possible service in accessing a comparable seat from which they can enjoy the matchday experience.
